Organ Mountains - Desert Peaks National Monument & surrounding nature/hiking

Big dramatic mountain backdrop for the city. The outdoorsy side of Las Cruces. Hiking, scenic overlooks, desert flora/fauna.

Tip: If you're not huge on hardcore hiking, pick a shorter trail or viewpoint - you'll still get that "wow"!

Historic Mesilla (Old Mesilla)

Charming old-town feel. Historic buildings, plazas, shops, restaurants. It’s where you slow down, take a stroll, soak in the past.

Tip: Great place for lunch/dinner after a morning outdoors. And don’t skip the local artisan shops.

Farmers & Crafts Market of Las Cruces (Downtown)

For a more "local life" angle: this market is frequently mentioned as a standout. Good for grabbing local food, crafts, hearing music, walking downtown.

Tip: Go early when it opens for best picks, cooler temps and fewer crowds.

White Sands National Park

You can't skip this! Massive white gypsum dunes that look like snow in the desert (but much warmer). Worth an early morning or late afternoon visit so you get the light right.

Tip: Bring good footwear (sands get hot), water, sun protection. Sledding down the dunes (yes, sledding) is legit fun.
